2016-2023 Tacoma Roll-Up Tonneau Covers by Bed
This is the best-documented Tacoma block. Tyger's T1 names a 5 ft (60 in) bed and Gator's ETX names 6 ft 2 in (73.7 in), both with sheets we could read. Then decide how you feel about the deck rails, because every cover treats them differently.

The short version
On a 2016-2023 Tacoma with the 5 ft bed, buy the Tyger T1 titled 5 ft (60 in), part TG-BC1T9044. With the 6 ft bed, buy the Gator ETX titled 6 ft 2 in (73.7 in). Toyota lists 60.5 and 73.7 inches and a standard deck rail system. Tyger's sheet says track-rail trucks get separate clamp instructions.
What's on this page
Tyger T1 (2016-2023 Tacoma, 5 ft)
Soft roll-up cover whose listing title reads: 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma | 5' (60") Bed | TG-BC1T9044.
Fits, according to the listing (maker's sheet read)
2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma | 5' (60") Bed | TG-BC1T9044 (read November 3, 2026)
Check your exact year and bed length on the listing before you buy.
Why here: Title names years, inches and part number, and that sheet is readable. Buy it if you have the short bed. Skip it if you have the 6 ft bed.
Why buy it
- The part number in the title ties the listing to Tyger's own sheet
- That sheet uses clamps, a ratchet with a 10mm socket and a Phillips screwdriver, with no drilling step
- The sheet covers crossbars, the latch gap and a tension plate for adjusting the fit
Why skip it
- Over-the-rail bed liner: the sheet says small 2 x 4 inch holes must be cut in the liner
- Vinyl cover; no weight rating appears on the sheet
- Style
- Soft roll-up
- Material
- Soft vinyl
- Install
- Clamp-on, per maker sheet
- Price class
- Mid-range
Gator ETX 135705 (2016-2023 Tacoma, 6'2")
Soft roll-up cover whose listing title reads: Fits 2016 - 2023 Toyota Tacoma 6' 2" Bed (73.7").
Fits, according to the listing (maker's sheet read)
Fits 2016 - 2023 Toyota Tacoma 6' 2" Bed (73.7") (read November 3, 2026)
Check your exact year and bed length on the listing before you buy.
Why here: Title names years and the long bed in inches, matching Toyota's 73.7. Gator's sheet is general, not part specific. Buy it if you have that bed. Skip it if you want a transferable warranty.
Why buy it
- Gator's sheet lists clamps, a 9/16 inch and a 1/2 inch wrench or socket
- The same sheet states a limited 2-year warranty on hard parts and on the fabric
Why skip it
- The sheet is Gator's general one and does not name this exact listing
- The sheet says there is no release from inside the bed, and vinyl conditioners must not be used
- Style
- Soft roll-up
- Material
- Vinyl, per title or maker sheet
- Install
- Clamp-on, per maker sheet
- Warranty
- Limited 2 years, per maker sheet

Bed and cab
Toyota's 2023 brochure lists an Access Cab with a 6 ft bed and a Double Cab with a 5 or 6 ft bed, at 60.5 and 73.7 inches. Note the 6 ft bed's numbers in titles: 6 ft 2 in (73.7 in) from Gator ETX and plain 6 ft from an unbranded listing. Gator's number matches Toyota's inches, which is a good sign. Use the tape if you are in doubt.
The rails question
Toyota lists the deck rail system as standard in that brochure, so most of these trucks have one. RealTruck gives the clearest account of what covers do to it:
- TruXedo soft and hard roll-ups: large brackets go into the deck rail. Rails and bulkhead tie-downs stay. Cleats still slide, but less.
- BAK hard covers: rails come off for the install and go back with drop brackets. The bulkhead rail comes off temporarily for foam pads.
- Gator SFX: hanger brackets.
- Retrax and GatorTrax: bulkhead tie-downs come off permanently.
For Tyger, the sheet says Nissan and Toyota trucks with a factory utility track rail get separate clamp instructions attached. Look for that sheet in the box before you start. More detail on the deck rail page.
The other names
Gator 5 ft 1 in. Title says 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma 5 ft 1 in bed. It uses the same general sheet as the ETX. Worth considering if a Gator is what you want on the short bed.
Rough Country soft. Title says fits 5 ft (60 in) bed. We read Rough Country's hard manual only, so this one is listing data for us.
Unbranded 6 ft. Title names a 6 ft standard box with deck rail. Useful for saying deck rail in the title. Listing data only.
TruXedo TruXport and Lo Pro. Titles name years and no bed. Have the seller confirm yours.
Before you order
- Check that your year sits between 2016 and 2023.
- Look at your rails, and read the sheet for clamp instructions.
- Check the inches, as above.
- Read how a cover goes on, and what to expect from rain.
Tall gear? Gator's sheet says to roll the cover fully open and fasten both retainer straps, and never drive with it partly open. See driving with the cover open.
What owners ask
Is 5 ft (60 in) the same bed as 5 ft 1 in?
Those titles point at the short bed. Tyger says 5 ft (60 in), Gator says 5 ft 1 in, and Toyota's 2023 brochure says 60.5 inches. Use a tape if you want a number to give to the seller.
Will the cover work with my deck rail cleats?
It depends on the cover. RealTruck says TruXedo soft and hard roll-ups use large brackets in the deck rail, so cleats still slide but less. Tyger says track-rail trucks get separate clamp instructions. Check the sheet for your cover.
Does the bed liner matter on a Tacoma?
Toyota's 2023 brochure lists a composite bed. If you added an over-the-rail liner, Tyger's sheet says small 2 x 4 in holes get cut for the clamps. See our bed liner answer for more.
