Rough Country Roll-Up Covers: Soft, Hard and the Manual We Read

Rough Country's titles name beds, and we could read the manual for its hard cover. That earns the hard roll-up a pick on the Tacoma and GM trucks. Buy it if your bed is titled. Skip the soft cover if you need a sheet first: we read none for it.

The short version

Rough Country's hard roll-up comes with a manual we could read: side rails, two drain tubes, two security straps, four clamps, four front bolts and tools in the box, plus a warranty of 3 years. Titles name a 5 ft 10 in GM bed and a 5 ft Tacoma bed. No load figure is printed, and we read no sheet for its soft covers.

What's on this page
Our pick: hard roll-up, 2019-2026 GMAd

Rough Country hard roll-up (2019-2026 Silverado/Sierra 1500, 5'10)

Hard rolling cover whose listing title reads: Chevy Silverado & GMC Sierra 1500 (2019-2026) - Aluminum Slat, No-Drill Install, Fits 5'10 Bed Short Bed.

Fits, according to the listing (maker's sheet read)

Chevy Silverado & GMC Sierra 1500 (2019-2026) - Aluminum Slat, No-Drill Install, Fits 5'10 Bed Short Bed (read November 3, 2026)

Check your exact year and bed length on the listing before you buy.

Why here: Title names the years, aluminum slats, no-drill install and 5 ft 10 in short bed, and we could read the manual. Buy it if that is your truck and bed.

Why buy it

  • Rough Country's manual lists clamps, drain tubes and a foam seal for the front of the bed
  • The manual's terms state 3 years on the structure, hinges, seals and hardware

Why skip it

  • The manual tells you not to exceed the rated weight capacity but prints no figure
  • It is a general manual, not one that names this listing

What the manual says

In the box. The cover, left and right side rails, two drain tubes, two security straps, four front bolts with washers and T nuts, foam seal, four clamps, a 17 mm spanner, 5 mm and 4 mm hex keys and replacement hook-and-loop strips.

Steps. Foam seal on the front edge. Insert a drain tube. Rail against the bed wall. One clamp at the front and one at the rear. Drain tubes into the front of the bed wall. Center the cover. Bolts in. Adjust the locking base and tongue.

Bad fit. If the tailgate does not touch the rear seal, move the rails toward the tailgate.

Care. Mild soap and water. No fuel, oils or chemicals.

Limits. Do not exceed the rated weight capacity, for which it gives no figure. Do not exceed your truck's GVWR.

Warranty. 3 years on structure, and on hinges, seals and hardware, for the original purchaser.

The manual is general to the hard roll-up, and not written for one truck. So use your truck's own instructions if a listing comes with different ones.

Buy it if, skip it if

Buy it if

  • You want slats and a title that names your bed
  • You like the tools in the box
  • You want a manual you can read before you buy

Skip it if

  • You want a printed load figure
  • Your bed is not titled: 6 ft on the Tacoma, for instance
  • You need more than the original-purchaser warranty

The soft covers

Titles for the soft covers run widely: F-150 2015-2026 at 5 ft 7 in, Tacoma by year block, GM 2019-2026 at 5 ft 10 in, Ram by 6 ft 4 in, HD at 6 ft 9 in, Super Duty at 6 ft 10 in and Gladiator at 5 ft (60.3 in). That is a useful spread, and the beds are named. But the manual we read is for the hard cover. So the soft ones stay listing data only on this site, and they do not get a pick.

Where people get confused

Rough Country is the top maker result for "roll up tonneau cover" on the search results we pulled, so it comes up a lot. Its product pages were blocked when we looked. So we are working from titles and one manual. We make no claim about how its covers compare with others after years on a truck.

Alternatives

BAK Revolver X4s comes with a printed load from RealTruck. The Sentry CT does too. Both titles leave out the bed. If the lid does not matter, soft roll-ups have more choices at lower price classes. Go to Silverado or Tacoma for the bed-specific picks.

What owners ask

How much weight can the Rough Country hard cover hold?

Its manual says not to exceed the rated weight capacity, and prints no figure. We have no number to give you. Ask Rough Country, or see our weight answer for what is printed for other covers.

Does it need drilling?

The GM title says No-Drill Install, and the manual uses clamps. It also has you run two drain tubes into the front of the bed wall. Read that step on your truck before you begin.

What if the tailgate does not touch the rear seal?

The manual says to move the rails toward the tailgate. That is its own check for a bad fit, and it is an easy one to do before you tighten everything.

Does the warranty transfer?

The manual lists 3 years on structure and on hinges, seals and hardware, for the original purchaser. So plan on it staying with you, not with the truck.
